The problem to be solved

Global demand for animal protein is steadily increasing, while natural resources are dwindling and the environmental impact of traditional production models is becoming less and less sustainable.
Solutions are needed to ensure efficiency, traceability and control, without compromising the environment

Our response

An advanced prototype system for insect breeding

Nome was created to transform insect breeding from an experimental activity into an advanced, controlled and replicable technological process.

A single platform integrating biology and animal husbandry, mechanical engineering, advanced sensor technology, Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support System (DSS), making the production process measurable, optimisable and scalable.

Why insects?

Insects represent one of the most promising alternative protein sources: high protein yield, low water and soil consumption, low emissions and full regulatory compatibility.

The system is designed for authorised European and national species, including Acheta domesticus, Tenebrio molitor and Alphitobius diaperinus.

How the system works

An intelligent, modular and industrialisable bioreactor

The heart of the project is a trolley-mounted modular bioreactor, with two independent growing environments, designed to ensure continuous environmental control, maximum hygiene and ease of maintenance.

AISI 304 and 316 stainless steel construction, two 56 litre cradles each, tilting system for cleaning and modular architecture make the system replicable and ready for industrial scale.

Real-time data and control

The system integrates comprehensive sensor technology for continuous monitoring of temperature, humidity, gases (O₂, CO₂, NH₃), lighting, ventilation and misting, with support for HD artificial vision.

Data is collected and analysed via industrial PLC, Modbus and MQTT protocols and cloud integration, ensuring reliability and business continuity.

Artificial Intelligence and DSS

Artificial Intelligence is the evolutionary engine of the system.
Machine Learning and Deep Learning models make it possible to predict the evolution of breeding conditions, detect anomalies and optimise growth, yield and product quality.

The Decision Support System transforms data into operational decisions through

intelligent multi-level alerts,
operational suggestions,
Clear and measurable KPIs.

KPIs and product quality

The system allows monitoring of key indicators such as FCR, growth rate, yield over time and per surface area, as well as the nutritional quality of the insects (protein, fat, chitosan).

Each choice is guided by objective data.
